Creating An Innovative Model of
Foster Care
Why LA County
There is a high need for an innovative model of foster care in Los Angeles and a lot of enthusiasm to create one. Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) staff, along with community leadership, are coming together to make a difference in foster care.
“Keeping siblings together in foster care holds significant value.
It recognizes and prioritizes the importance of maintaining family bonds even during challenging times. Together California is helping us transform foster care and achieve more positive outcomes for those involved in the foster care journey.”
Brandon Nichols,
Director of the Los Angeles County DCFS
Why Palmdale
“When I first heard about the model of Together California, I was all in.
I made a commitment to bringing it to the Antelope Valley and appreciate the City of Palmdale for stepping up to also support the program. Keeping siblings in foster care together in quality environments will undoubtedly bring life-changing stability to some of our most vulnerable youth.”
Kathryn Barger
Supervisor, 5th District
Los Angeles County
Palmdale is situated in the Antelope Valley on the Northwest corner of Los Angeles County. An energetic and responsive city government responded with immediacy and enthusiasm to support this project.
“Together California is a beacon of hope for vulnerable children in the foster care system, providing a loving home, education, and opportunities for a brighter future.
By providing a stable and nurturing environment for children in need, Together California not only benefits the individual children but also strengthens our community as a whole.”
Austin Bishop
Mayor, City of Palmdale
Our First Village
In September 2022, Together California purchased a 4.67 acre parcel of land in Palmdale, California. With the City of Palmdale’s support, the 12 homes and community center will be a beacon of hope. Children will be cared for by full-time Together California foster parents who will coordinate services for each child.
- Together California will offer two studio apartments providing temporary housing for birth parents working towards family reunification or transitional housing for children aging out of foster care.
- A 7,000-square-foot Community Center will house the Together California offices and offer enriching programs and services to the entire community.
- Garden, recreational, and sports areas will create an engaging and healthy space for children and families in the community to come together, learn, collaborate, and care for each other.

“With LA County having more kids in foster care than anywhere else in America, it’s time we stand together and take a holistic, loving, and long-term approach to take better care of our children.
Please join us in transforming the foster care system and improving children’s lives throughout Los Angeles.”

Co-Founders
Together California creates homes in the context of a village to strengthen our experience of belonging and help children reach their full potential. The group of individual homes, with shared recreational facilities and administrative offices, is designed to create a true sense of community. The unique strength lies in the collective power of loving foster parents, dedicated staff, and the surrounding community who work together to help children gain confidence, trust, and a renewed sense of hope. We aim to provide Together California youth with the tools and resources they need to grow into caring, responsible, self-reliant adults.
